NEW YORK – February 2, 2021 – On February 17, at 8:00 PM EST in the U.S., and February 18 at 9:00 AM in China, China Institute will celebrate its cross-cultural mission by honoring influential bridge-builders from the U.S., mainland China, and Hong Kong.

This comes at a time when cultural ties are even more essential to helping the evolving relationship between the U.S. and China.

“Our shared future depends on mutual dialogue. The U.S.-China relationship is arguably the most consequential in the world. The Blue Cloud Gala recognizes extraordinary people working to strengthen this vital connection,” said James Heimowitz, President of China Institute. “This year China Institute is proud to recognize the achievements of honorees who lead in entertainment, media, finance, and commerce.”

This year’s virtual gala will incorporate a Chinese New Year theme, featuring a traditional lion dance, a performance by Hong Kong’s Refiner Drum Group, and an appearance by renowned actor Jackie Chan to celebrate and welcome the Year of the Ox for attendees.

Since 1984, the Blue Cloud Award has been presented to outstanding individuals who embody China Institute’s mission to educate people about China. This year, we recognize Jingqing Cai for her environmental leadership; Jackie Chan for his educational philanthropy; Ronnie C. Chan for his contribution to East-West dialogue; Anla Cheng for her influence and deep support of China Institute; and Charles Li for his efforts to champion Hong Kong as a bridge-building global financial center.

China Institute offers GA tickets to make the event open and free to the public. VIP ticket purchasers are invited to an exclusive online reception following the Gala premiere with honorees, dignitaries, sponsors, and special guests. All proceeds from the Blue Cloud Gala directly benefit China Institute.
