Celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival at China Institute in America for the entire family!

Mid-autumn is one of the most celebrated holidays in China – a time for families to get together under the full moon and light up lanterns to symbolically illuminate the path to success for the rest of the year.

Join us at this signature event on Saturday September 21 to enjoy hand puppet shows, music performances, mooncake-making, traditional Han garments, sugar paintings, our new exhibition, and so much more!

Schedule of the Day

2:00 – 2:30 PM Budaixi Hand Puppetry Performance
2:30 – 2:40 PM Music Performance
3:45 – 3:55 PM Music Performance
3:00 – 5:00 PM Workshops
2:00 – 5:00 PM Interactive Stations

Workshops (first-come, first-served with limited capacity; register at the check-in desk on the day of)

3:00 – 4:00 PM

  • Budaixi Hand Puppetry Workshop (15 min per session): learn to bring beautiful puppets to life by translating movement and emotion through your fingers into the puppets to create lively human expressions! Ages 5 and up.
  • Discover China Through Art Workshop (I): gallery tour of the new exhibition Gold from Dragon City and design your own pattern of buyao headdress! All ages.
  • Mooncake Making Workshop (I): make delicious snow skin mooncakes to take home! All ages.
  • Traditional Han Garment Workshop (I): enjoy stories and learn about traditional Han Chinese garment and try them on! All ages.

4:00 – 5:00 PM

  • Discover China Through Art Workshop (II): gallery tour of the new exhibition Gold from Dragon City and design your own pattern of buyao headdress! All ages.
  • Mooncake Making Workshop (II): make delicious snow skin mooncakes to take home! All ages.
