Chinese In America: Stereotyped Past, Changing Present

This compelling history of the Chinese experience in America is based on the raw material, in both English and Chinese, gathered by a research project at the China Institute in America in New York City. The book takes us beyond old stereotypes and includes little known accounts of the Chinese, such as their arrival on American shores in the late 18th century and their presence in Mississippi during the post-Reconstruction era. It chronicles their survival and achievements over the centuries.
