The Essence of Chinese Calligraphy: Nature, Humanity, and Self-Spirituality

Calligraphy is deemed the highest expression of Chinese visual art. At this informative lecture, master calligrapher Cui Xuelu will share his insights into the close relationship between Chinese calligraphy and the concepts of nature, humanity, and self-spirituality.

In exploring this quintessential Chinese art form, Mr. Cui will delve into the historical evolution of Chinese calligraphy styles, emphasizing the purpose of calligraphy as a means of expressing Taoism. He will also discuss the “View of the Human-Oriented Universal Peace” created by the Taoist paradigm of “the unity of nature and man” and its significance in modern civilization and the future of humanity.

书道是中国文化哲思至高体现，书法是中国传统文化中具有蓬勃活力、内涵文化精神的代表性艺术载体。华美人文学会特邀书法家崔学路先生于2023年美东时间7月8日晚8时至9时半（北京时间7月9日上午8时至9时半）做专题讲座，与书道同仁和书法爱好者一同体验“古今书道．道法自然” 。

崔学路先生，著名书法家、书法教育家和书道倡行者。他将在讲座中强调汉字书写与“自然、人文、自我性灵”之间的密切联系，并将解读老子“天人合一”道学范式创立的“人本宇宙和平观”。同时，崔先生将分享汉字书体演变的历史，着重阐释书以载道的宗旨，并阐述老子“不以兵强天下”的思想对于现代文明和人类的未来的指导意义。

2023年4月20日崔学路先生受邀在联合国中文日上做全球直播讲座并举办个人书法展。

As a renowned calligrapher, calligraphy teacher, and advocate, Mr. Cui Xuelu has held exhibitions in various prestigious art museums and institutions worldwide, including the National Art Museum of China, the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall in Taiwan, the Charlotte History Museum in the United States, and the United Nations. He has won numerous awards and taught at various esteemed institutions, including the Singapore Calligraphy Center, the Palace Museum in Taiwan, and the Yuki Shin Calligraphy Association in Japan. Mr. Cui has also published over a hundred monographs, including “The Art of Cui Xuelu Calligraphy”.

崔学路先生1945年生于山东德州武城佛堂，号佛堂、玄一。《青少年书法报》的创办者和首任社长、总编，同时还担任北京师范大学启功书院学术委员会委员、《美术教育研究》主任编委等职务。他曾在中国美术馆、台湾国父纪念馆、美国夏洛特市历史博物馆、联合国等美术馆或机构举办《玄一书道展》。成就包括获得首届黄宾虹美术教育奖、国际现代书法大赛荣获特别荣誉奖、“敦煌飞天奖”艺术家、当代十大硬笔书法家等。此外，他还在新加坡书法中心、台湾故宫博物院、台湾中华书学会、日本雪心书会、北京大学书法研究生班等多处机构授课，并出版了《玄一书道──崔学路书作集》等百余部专著。
