China Institute in America, Chinese Language Teachers Association of Greater New York (CLTA-GNY) and Shanghai Jiao Tong University Host 22nd New York International Conference on Teaching Chinese

NEW YORK—May 4, 2024 – China Institute in America, Chinese Language Teachers Association of Greater New York (CLTA-GNY) and Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) host the 22nd  New York International Conference on Teaching Chinese: Innovative and Sustainable Approaches to Global Chinese Language Teaching at China Institute in New York City. This annual conference brings teachers, experts and scholars from the U.S., China, Canada, Singapore and other regions to share innovations, research and best practices on Chinese language and culture education worldwide.

“We are delighted to co-host today’s conference at China Institute in May as we celebrate AAPI heritage,” says George S. Geh, CEO of the China Institute in America. “For nearly a century, China Institute has been at the forefront of promoting exchanges between American and Chinese people. Chinese language education is an essential part of our mission to provide people with insight and knowledge to understand the complexity and dynamism that is China.”

With participants from the United States, China, as well as other countries and regions, we look forward to the exchange of research and teaching experiences, which will contribute to the advancement of international Chinese education.” says Xiaoxiao Jiao, President of Chinese Language Teachers Association of Greater New York (CLTA-GNY).

“Shanghai Jiao Tong University is honored to be co-hosting the conference this year,” says Prof. Jun Wang on behalf of the School of Humanities at SJTU, “We believe that through the joint efforts of universities, K-12 schools, educational institutions, and Chinese teachers worldwide, we can achieve sustainable development and continuous flourishing in international Chinese education.”

“This conference is an important annual event for Chinese language educators in our Consular District.” says Yougen Yu, Education Counselor of the Chinese Consulate General in New York, “I hope Chinese language education in the new era will contribute to a better understanding of China through the continuous effort to collaborate, improve quality of teaching, and encourage people-to-people exchange among students.”
