Children and Youth’s Lead Teacher/Program Coordinator

School of Chinese Studies China Institute in America is seeking a passionate and experienced Chinese language teacher to take on dual roles within the Children and Youth Education Programs: teaching Chinese language classes to children and teens and coordinating both academic and administrative responsibilities, including providing technical support for online classes.

Teaching
Teach after-school group classes and private tutoring classes within the Children and Youth Education Programs, across the academic year as well as the summer program. Classes are offered at various times, including daytime, evening, and weekends, both online and onsite.
Serve as a substitute teacher when needed.

Managing the Private Tutoring Program + School Outreach Workshops
Independently manage the Private Tutoring Program, including handling inquiries, coordinating with instructors and students, providing assessments, arranging instructors based on student schedules, setting up Zoom classrooms, and following up as needed.
Oversee and keep track of all school outreach classes and itineraries for our We All Live in Forbidden City workshops, Explore Chinese Culture workshops.

Administrative Support

  • Participate in program planning meetings to collaborate on curriculum design, class scheduling, purchase of materials, etc.
  • Respond effectively to all inquiries and grow and retain student enrollment for group classes, private tutoring, school workshops and other related events and activities of the Children and Youth Programs
  • Keep track of student enrollment, registration records, attendance sheets, payment tracking and other related records.
  • Communicate with parents, teaching staff and other constituents regarding program offerings, updates and amendments.
  • Conduct ongoing research and implement an up-to-date curriculum, including textbook selection, course design, and resource compilation.
  • Maintain the program’s textbook resource folder to ensure it is current.
  • Conduct classroom observations for new instructors and courses and provide feedback afterward.
  • Support the end-of-term evaluation process, analyze data, and offer suggestions for improvement.
  • Stay informed about key developments in relevant fields by participating in professional conferences, workshops, and training sessions.
  • Assist the Director of Education in overall administrative operations for the Children & Youth Education Programs, including new initiatives and programs
  • Assist in the implementation of marketing efforts, including updating the website, creating newsletters and flyers, and producing other promotional materials.

Qualifications

  • Educational background in Early Childhood Education, Childhood Education, Teaching Chinese as a Second Language, Bilingual Education, Applied Linguistics, or related areas
  • Native proficiency level in spoken and written Chinese
  • Prior experience working with diverse cultures will be useful; ability to respect, value and honor diversity of children and families a must
  • At least 2-3 years teaching experience of children in group class and private class in the U.S.
  • Excellent classroom management and organization skills
  • A good command of using simplified Chinese characters
  • Fluency in both spoken Mandarin and English
  • Proficiency in computer and technology applications for online learning, particularly Zoom, Google Classroom, etc.
  • Experience working in an office setting is highly preferred.
